Cadets who plan to attend the COWG encampment this coming summer and have not yet applied need to do that now! Information on encampment and how to register is below:
Cadets will spend an exciting week in the Colorado Springs area participating in experiences at the United States Air Force Academy, Peterson Air Force Base and Fort Carson. The program focuses on teaching cadets about aerospace power and heritage, the three missions of Civil Air Patrol (emergency services, aerospace and cadet programs), character, physical fitness and drill and ceremonies.
Experienced cadets will mentor and instruct basic cadets throughout the week using the demonstration-performance method; using more experienced cadets to "tell - show - do - review" is a very effective way for newer cadets to learn how to be the best Civil Air Patrol cadet they can be and take those skills back to their home squadron. The week will conclude with a formal Dining-In on Friday evening and a Pass-in-Review ceremony for family, friends and fellow cadets on Saturday morning.
In addition to participating in exciting activities and learning about CAP and its missions, basic cadets will meet other CAP cadets from many different areas of Colorado and learn how to participate in state, region and nation-wide activities such as: Powered Flight Academy, Ground Search and Rescue School, Space Command Familiarization Course, Advanced Technologies Academy, Regional Cadet Leadership School, Cadet Competition, Cadet Advisory Council and much more.
Encampment will be held from June 23rd -- June 30th at the United States Air Force Academy. Attendance at an encampment is required in order to earn the Mitchell Award and the rank of 2nd Lt. Space is limited, so we encourage cadets to apply early to secure their slot. Encampment applications for basic cadets will be accepted until all positions are filled or June 2nd. We anticipate that all slots will be filled by March.
